Each video begins with a fragment from one of my Covid-era watercolours (2020–2022).
I use Adobe Firefly to animate or reimagine that painted source, prompting it in poetic and surreal directions rather than literal ones.
Intent
The hope is to keep hold of the painting’s original sensibility — its texture, mood, and instability — even as it shifts into motion.
Tension
This is not easy. The platform increasingly favours a polished, commercially legible realism: smoother movement, cinematic effects, photographic finish. More conventional, perhaps. And for that reason, less compelling.
